Maddie + Sam’s National Cathedral Wedding
Being a wedding photographer in Washington D.C. is hands down, the best location to be a wedding photographer. There are an abundance of amazing venues, not to mention the stunning backdrops we have in the nation’s capitol. Just take a look at Maddie and Sam’s wedding if you need further proof.
Their wedding was rescheduled due to COVID and the last date that was available was the last weekend in July, which isn’t the top pick for a wedding date. Incredibly, the weather was absolutely perfect and I don’t even think we topped 80 degrees that day. All this to say, I know July may not seem like a top contender for wedding dates in D.C. or Virginia, however, I’ve been tracking the last two years and we do have some mild temperatures towards the end of July.
What I loved about Maddie & Sam’s wedding was that their style was unabashedly classic and timeless. Whenever I photograph a wedding day, I take the approach of “How will their grandchildren see these images?” And looking at these, I know their children and grandchildren will love them as much as they do. I love that Maddie & Sam incorporated personal elements, like the airplane place holders for the escort display. Sam flies planes for the military and that personal touch was perfect! Maddie wore her grandmother’s pearl ring. It was a sentimental touch that meant so much to them both.
I always encourage my brides to find ways to make the day personal to them. It helps if you work with a great Washington D.C. wedding planner and if you need suggestions, shoot me an e-mail and I’d be happy to share some with you. In the meantime, enjoy Maddie + Sam’s lovely day at National Cathedral with their reception at the ever stylish, Chevy Chase Club.
