My heart was a little heavy yesterday with the news of Kate Spade’s passing. I started to think about all the good that she did in the world and what she represented for so many people. To me personally, she was a visionary and a disrupter. She had an idea that she could make handbags and accessories more interesting than the pieces she kept coming across as a stylist. So what did she do? She took her ideas and made them into a global brand that represents the power of women to achieve and accomplish their dreams and desires. I remember my first Kate Spade purse, which came with a little duster bag with the quote: “She tucked her coral lipstick away and floated back to the party.” I am grateful to Kate’s example of entrepreneurship.
I couldn’t think of a better way to pay tribute to her today than to share with you all, my most Kate Spade loving bride I have had to date, Lauren. Lauren love’s Kate Spade so much that she named her dog “Kate Spade.” Of course I love dogs and welcomed the idea of having Kate Spade at Lauren’s wedding. As you peruse this beautiful wedding at Holy Rosary in Washington D.C., you’ll see that there are touches of Kate Spade throughout.
And lastly, we need to work to destigmatize mental health problems in our country. It is a serious, serious issue that affects many people I know personally. If we could think of the brain as the organ that it is, and treat it with the proper healthcare that we would give to our heart, our lungs, our joints, etc…, perhaps we would see less shame and embarrassment attached to health problems of the brain.

Scott picked the right gift, a Kate Spade jewelry box with a necklace inside.
How cute is it that Kate Spade led the way to the first look!
Loved using the Hotel Monaco in D.C. for the bridal party and much of the formal portraits. It’s such a fantastic space!
Of course, we had to bring a little Kate Spade touch to the head table.
Loved that their first dance was “Love You Till the End” by the Pogues
And bride’s a great way to honor your grandparent’s is to have a special dance. I loved seeing Lauren’s grandfather’s face light up with delight as they danced to “The Wind Beneath my Wings.”
