Did you know that I used to be a Junior Rosarian? Seriously it was legit. Google it and you’ll see what I mean 🙂 I joined the Junior Rose Society when I was 10 or 11. And my younger brother, Mark, also joined. My grandparents were huge Rosarians and their rose garden has always been admired by everyone who knows them. I remember being a young child and walking through their gardens. I would smell each flower, feeling the soft velvety petals, and imagine what amazing perfume concoction me and my sister could come up with by smashing the petals to pieces and adding drops of water. As part of the Junior Rose Society, we attended monthly meetings where we learned how to care for roses, replant them, fertilize them, and prune them. It was very involved. And then there were the rose shows. Let me tell you it was a very serious matter.
The rose shows were usually held at a local mall. Everyone would enter their best roses from their garden. The judges would go around to each flower and inspect them. It was very intimidating and you knew that if you ended up with a blue ribbon, you were going home with a piece of silver or crystal. It was pretty intense and fun all at the same time. I can remember among us Junior Rosarians that the competition was pretty strong. If you are asking yourself at this point, “Seriously Shauna? This is how you spent your childhood?” That would probably be appropriate because it seems so silly to place so much emphasis on a flower right? Well, it turns out that flowers really are important. Take it from me, a former expert Junior Rosarian :p Hey I did win some blue ribbons in my day!
Sometimes for whatever reason, flowers fall to the bottom of the bride’s list. I am not sure why this happens but I can only imagine it’s because there are a gazillion and one things to think about when planning your wedding.
Whether you choose to DIY your flowers or have them done by a professional, they need to be given proper attention. Flowers just add that extra wow factor to any wedding. And flowers are a great way to bring in color to your wedding party. Look at the lovely contrast of the blue and coral tones below.
I loved this bouquet by my bride Kristy. It’s so bright and cheery and it was the perfect complement to her baseball themed wedding this last summer. I also loved that she incorporated her father’s ring on the bouquet. Attaching small sentimental items to the base of your bouquet is a wonderful way to remember those loved ones that have passed on that mean so much to you.
And lastly, the bouquets of your attendants can be fun and whimsical. The bridesmaid bouquet below is so cheery and fun. It was a wonderful contrast to the bride’s bouquet which was all white.
In the end the flowers will wilt and won’t last forever, but the brilliance and beauty of your wedding day flowers will live on in photographs and that’s why having a great photographer is the most important decision for your wedding day plans 🙂 Just sayin’
