Emma and Devin were married this last May on a gorgeous Thursday afternoon at the Washington D.C. Temple in Maryland. Everything about their day was perfect. Emma and Devin are so well matched and you can just tell that they are not only in love, but best friends too. They both met while studying at Brigham Young University. Even though Devin is from another country, it didn’t stop them from pursuing their relationship. When I say another country, it’s not like he was from New Zealand, but still, it’s not like Canada is super close to Virginia. Emma and Devin had impeccable style for their wedding. Emma’s dress was custom made and designed by Project Runway winner, Leanne Marshall. Leanne lives in New York City and Emma decided it would be worth her while to pay her a visit. So one long weekend with her parents turned into the wedding dress of her dreams. Devin and his groomsmen all wore suits from Zara and looked mighty dapper. The bridesmaid dresses were found online from Shabby Apple. They have a definite retro vibe while still remaining classic.
I enjoyed every part of capturing their wedding. These two are gracious and kind and I can’t wait to see what life brings them.
Here is Emma & Devin’s engagement story from Emma:
Devin and I had gone ring shopping, so I had an idea that something was coming. I thought that he was going to propose to me when we went up to his hometown in Canada for American Thanksgiving. I even asked my mom to help me try to change my phone plan so I would be able to call people while I was up there to discuss the big news. However, Devin had a different idea in mind. The Saturday before Thanksgiving break, Devin and I had been studying in the library all morning (we are both accounting majors, so this was a common occurrence). He has a sister that lives locally with her family, and his other sister and brother-in-law were in town for the weekend. We had plans to go to his local sister’s house for dinner. As we were driving down to her house, we got a text saying things were running behind schedule. Devin decided to take a detour and have us go for a drive up Hobble Creek Canyon in Springville, Utah to “waste some time.” I was really tired, and was half asleep in the car during the drive (I had no idea anything was going to happen). Apparently while I was laying back in my seat, Devin’s sister and brother-in-law were driving back down in the opposite direction (they had been setting things up), but I didn’t see anything! We drove up the canyon for a while, and we approached a large, covered bridge. Devin pulled over and said we should go for a walk. I still didn’t think anything of it. I sleepily got out of the car, and Devin and I walked over to the bridge. I saw that there were lit candles all along the bridge and I said, “Oh my gosh, these candles are real! There must be a party or something going on.” I was an idiot. As I looked around more, I realized that there were pictures hanging all around along the bridge — pictures of Devin and me. I then started to put two and two together. Devin got down on one knee and proposed. We then spent some time on the bridge looking at the pictures and just talking as it started to pour outside. As we were talking, Devin actually started to get a bloody nose. It was too funny. After we cut down the pictures for me to save, we drove to Devin’s sister’s house where we all had dinner together. It was wonderful.

Lovely florals from Event Studio
That bouquet, Kelly knocked it out of the park.
So many different outbuildings at the Barns at Hamilton Station. I never tire of the various backdrops.
A bride in a tree? Not sure anything could be better.
Emma, you are just so beautiful!
I really loved Emma’s understated floral hair wreath. So simple and chic!
Given that Devin is from Canada, I had to throw in a little bit of the Amercian flag just to remind him that he married an American.
