We have had a very strange winter here in Virginia. Usually we have a few snow days here and there and a good storm will pass through affording us some much needed lazy days after the holidays. This winter we have had no such luck! We have had temps climbing to nearly 60 degrees at times. The unfortunate part of all this is that I booked snow sessions with clients and we have had very little snow 🙁 It looks like those snow sessions will most likely be spring sessions. This last Saturday I thought it might actually happen. There was snow on the trees and it was lightly snowing. I started to get excited but then I read the weather report and it would be gone by the afternoon. With my creative juices nearly bubbling over, I decided to grab my daughter and head outside for a few “snow” photos. I just love shooting her. Sounds so bad to say but I mean it in the most sincere way 🙂
I also wanted to point something out to my clients and that is the use of color. I have had clients that love photos with vibrant color. When I send you your new client information packet, it talks about the importance of color and textures in your clothing selections. Sometimes I don’t think my clients even read the information because those very clients that like rich color will show up to the session wearing gray, black, and white, with very little color. Can I just say, if you love color and you don’t wear it for your photos, you’re not going to like your photos. That’s the truth! Wear what you love to your photo shoot and what you are draw to in the photos that you see online. Do you see kids in cute colorful hats? Well then try to mimic that. Do you love the rich warm tones of brown leather boots with blue jeans? Well then wear that with a pop of color in your top. I can’t emphasize this enough. Clients, please carefully consider what you wear to your session. It’s an investment in your memories and in your life as art. So with that in mind here are some colors that photograph well: red, blue, yellow, purple, fuchsia, orange, teal, and then neutral colors along with those like gray, brown, blue, you get the idea. I am going to try to make a better effort this year at providing better guidance for clothing selection.
Now I’ll jump off my soapbox 😛 This session was done at a time when most people would say, “It’s so gray outside and gloomy.” I look at these photos and I love the rich colors and the muted backgrounds. I just LOVE them!
Oh Shauna… I love these!! Don’t you just love the country roads & woods that we have here in VA? I’m loving the one of just her nose/mouth peeking out from under the hat!
Thanks girl!
