It was just another Saturday for me with two photo sessions scheduled and on the calendar. Around 9:30 a.m. I got a phone call from a concerned maid of honor: “Um, we were wondering if you might be able to help us today. We have a bit of a situation. The photographer who was supposed to photograph my friend’s wedding can’t do it. Are you available?” I was thinking to myself: “no I am not available because I have two sessions already. How could I do two sessions and a last minute wedding?” But then the reality of the bride set in. You have one day — just one day — to capture your wedding. You don’t have do overs, second chances or repeats. I knew I just had to make it work somehow. Fortunately, the timing worked so I could do one session in the morning. The second session was with my neighbor and they were so understanding; it all worked out. Incidentally, the original wedding photographer was a friend of the groom, who apparently was feeling “ill.” If you are thinking to hire a friend to shoot your wedding, realize that a wedding is a lot of work and takes a lot of time and energy on the part of the photographer. Even if they are your friend, please have a contract and most importantly, pay them for their services because without those two elements, you may end up without a photographer for your wedding day, and who wants that? Then again, if you find yourself in this situation, you can always call me. If you are lucky, I just might be available. 😉
